SUMMARY:2011 Blue Vision Summit
DESCRIPTION:Join the Blue Frontier Campaign and members of the national and international marine community at the 2011 Blue Vision Summit as the oceans community comes together again to raise its profile and work towards the enactment and enforcement of national ocean policy\, addressing climate change impacts and Gulf restoration. Recent setbacks in our efforts for healthy seas such as the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico and on-going and growing concerns over the collapse of marine wildlife and ocean acidification reinforce the importance and timeliness of this event. \nThe 2011 Blue Vision Summit will include the 4th Annual Peter Benchley Ocean Awards. The ceremony is scheduled for Saturday\, May 21st and it will conclude the day’s sessions. \nPlease visit Blue Frontier Campaign for event details.

SUMMARY:Cuba: The Accidental Eden - Screening & Discussion at DC Environmental Film Festival
DESCRIPTION:CUBA: THE ACCIDENTAL EDEN (USA\, 2010\, 60 min.)\nCuba may have been isolated politically and economically for the past 50 years\, but its borders have remained open to wildlife for which Cuba’s undeveloped islands are an irresistible draw. While many islands in the Caribbean have poisoned or paved over their ecological riches on land and in the sea in pursuit of a growing tourist industry\, Cuba’s wild landscapes have remained virtually untouched\, creating a safe haven for rare and intriguing indigenous animals\, as well as for hundreds of species of migrating birds and marine creatures. Coral reefs have benefited\, too. Independent research has shown that Cuba’s corals are much healthier than others both in the Caribbean and around the world. Written and produced by Doug Schultz for PBS NATURE. \nDiscussion with David E. Guggenheim\, who stars in the film\, follows screening. \n Ticket/Reservation Info: FREE. no reservations needed. \nNational Museum of Natural History\nBaird Auditorium\n10th St. & Constitution Ave.\, NW\n(Metro: Smithsonian\, The Mall exit or Federal Triangle\, 12th St. exit.
