SUMMARY:Boston Sea Rovers 2014
DESCRIPTION:In collaboration with Caradonna Dive Adventures\, Ocean Doctor president\, Dr. David E. Guggenheim will present a 45-minute seminar on “Legal Travel to Cuba for U.S. Citizens” at Boston Sea Rovers 2014\, detailing Ocean Doctor’s Cuba Travel Program featuring Cuba’s Gardens of the Queen. \nThe Boston Sea Rovers is a not for profit volunteer organization dedicated to increasing awareness and appreciation of the marine environment. We are one of the oldest and most distinguished underwater clubs in America \, and have a worldwide reputation of excellence. While the membership has changed repeatedly over the years\, we still hold true to a pledge that was inspired in 1954\, and we remain dedicated to “Raising the Level of Knowledge of the Underwater World”. In order to achieve this lofty goal\, the early members of the club designed and invented the first underwater film show available to the general public. They called that first production a Clinic\, and we have held the event every year since. \nThe Clinic now comprises an entire weekend\, which is typically the second full weekend in March. The event is held at the Doubletree by Hilton Hotel-Boston North Shore. The Clinic consists of a world renowned film festival where international underwater film makers present and premier their most recent works\, over forty daytime seminars covering a wide variety of topics\, workshops focused on hands-on training\, and an exhibit hall filled with equipment\, travel destinations\, dive clubs\, and more. \nFounded when SCUBA diving was still in its infancy\, The Boston Sea Rovers are a group of people from diverse and varied backgrounds\, who share the common bond of a love for diving and for the ocean. \n

SUMMARY:Aqua-Nuts Dive Club - Horsham\, Pennsylvania
DESCRIPTION:A Living Time Machine: Cuba’s Spectacular Ocean Ecosystems and the Hope They Offer the World \nDr. Guggenheim directs Cuba Conservancy\, an Ocean Doctor Program\, and is in his 14th year leading research and conservation efforts in Cuba\, a joint effort with Cuba’s Center for Coastal Ecosystem Research and the University of Havana’s Center for Marine Research. His work was recently featured on 60 Minutes with Anderson Cooper\, on the PBS Nature series and on NPR. \nIn a world of corals dead and dying\, Cuba’s marine ecosystems are spectacularly healthy\, a Jurassic Park-like experience teeming with endangered species seldom seen elsewhere in the Caribbean\, including bountiful sharks and grouper. We visit Gardens of the Queen\, named by Christopher Columbus 500 years ago to honor Spain’s Queen Isabella — truly a living time machine — and explore why this area is so healthy and what the implications are for ocean ecosystems around the world. Gardens of the Queen is Cuba’s first marine protected area and the Caribbean’s largest. \nDr. Guggenheim also presents Ocean Doctor’s new Cuba Travel Program which\, for the first time\, is bringing divers from the U.S. to Cuba legally as part of a people-to-people educational program\, to dive in the Gardens of the Queen and meet the Cuban scientists and conservation professionals who are working to protect it. \nLearn more: \nOcean Doctor’s Cuba Conservancy Program: http://oceandoctor.org/cuba \nOcean Doctor’s Cuba Travel Program: http://oceandoctor.org/gardens
