Sophia Marencik – Conservation Policy Intern
Sophia Marencik is a graduate student at Johns Hopkins University where she is currently pursuing her M.S. in Environmental Science & Policy, as well as a graduate certificate in GIS. She grew up in Bloomington, Indiana, before attending UCLA from 2017-2021, receiving her B.S. in marine biology, with a minor in the digital humanities. In addition to her passion for the sea, her hobbies include painting, photography, design, reading, writing, hiking, scuba diving, thrifting, and spending time with her beloved, geriatric cat, Lucy. In her free time, she is working towards her certificate in scientific illustration through RISD’s continuing education program. Her favorite color is sea foam green.
She is incredibly excited for the opportunity to work with Ocean Doctor and hopes to pursue a career in ocean conservation. Currently she is leading Ocean Doctor’s initiative on deep-sea mining.
